LOVE WITHOUT BLOOD by Raz Steel

First published in January 2009
by Dorchester Publishing Co, New York

Paperback - 323 Pages
ISBN - 978-0-505-52800-1

"I CAN'T STOP THE BLEEDING," said her nighttime caller.
The intruder then compelled Dr. Lara West to remove the bullet from his shoulder. She treated his wound, but that quelled neither his desire for the sweet life pulsing through the flesh of her thigh, nor the rampant animal lust that defines his existence.
The darkness has just begun. Dr. West's identity, what she wants--all stands in danger of being devoured. Nothing is ever the same for those inducted into the sinister world of vampires, be they newly turned monsters or the government agents sworn to destroy them. Lara West has tasted both power and passion, and a price must be paid. Yet she's glimpsed salvation in the night. Hope still remains for... LOVE WITHOUT BLOOD

I found this to be a great paced book, with the pace only slowing slightly while our Dr. West has to readjust to a new life, with a new identity, job, home town etc. That is understandable, as there needs to be the explanation of how she deals with it.

The story has you alternating between the stories of Lara and the male nurse/vampire Bobby. They intermingle along the way, until they are thrown together and the story becomes one. You will find this is no teenage vampire story - Bobby the vampire has the ability to read women's minds, searching for their fantasies - and at times, this can be a little raunchy.

Government agencies trying to capture a rogue vampires, Lara unable to even comprehend the fact that vampires do exist ... and the strong connection between Lara and Bobby - this all wraps itself together to create a very enjoyable and pleasureable read.

You will get closure with this story - unusual these days, considering most authors are following the Book 1,2,3 and so on genre ...

The downside of this book, which seemed slightly unbelievable, was the elderly parents of Phillipe another nurse, in the book. As I was reading their part in the book, I remember thinking WHAT? They can't accept that their son is gay, but they have acceptance of the existence of Vampires?
Oh well .. that was just the way I felt reading it.

This is a good read - you will find yourself engrossed and the pages will be flipping over until you reach the end, and still want more.

Vampire Kisses by Ellen Schreiber

First Published in 2003
Reprinted in 2010 by Pier 9
ISBN : 978-1-742-66021-9
Paperback : 196 pages

A new guy in town.
Rumors of vampires.
Dangerous first love.
This is where it all begins. . . .

The mansion on top of Benson Hill has stood empty for years. But one day it seems to be occupied, and its mysterious, handsome inhabitant Alexander Sterling becomes the source of much talk around town. Raven, a vampire-obsessed Goth-girl who has always considered herself an outsider in "Dullsville," is determined to uncover the truth surrounding the secretive Alexander. As she gets to know him, and their spark intensifies, Raven finds herself in some unanticipated situations. Can Alexander make her lifelong dream come true? But love always has its complications—especially when it can only be awakened at nightfall.

I don't know how to rate this book - I started and finished it all within 2 hours, and ended up with a let down feeling. There was no confirmation - was Alexander a vampire or not? Is he coming back - or is Raven going to take off to find him? Really - come on don't leave me hanging!

I found that the majority of this book seemed to centre around the relationship between Raven and Trevor. Alexander and Raven didn't really meet/talk/connect/touch until 3/4 of the way through the book - and I found when I finished that I thought WOW well I am not going to bother with the rest of the series ... I truly felt let down.

I know these books are aimed at teenagers/YA ... and anything to get them reading books is a definite plus, but I feel the only way to clarify if I really want to keep reading the series is to go out and buy the 2nd book. I am a huge fan of Ellen's ... but truly for me, this book didn't deliver.
Guess the only way I will really know is to go and part with more money - just to see if this series is going to grab me or not. I hope so

Tiger's Curse by Colleen Houck

First published in Great Britain in 2011
by Hodder & Stoughton
ISBN : 978-1-444-73460-7
Paperback : 498 Pages

The last thing Kelsey Hayes thought she'd be doing this summer was trying to break a 300-year old Indian curse. With a mysterious white tiger named Ren. Halfway around the world.
But that's exactly what happened.
Face-to-face with dark forces, spellbinding magic, and mystical worlds where nothing is what it seems, Kelsey risks everything to piece together an ancient prophecy that could break the curse forever.

I bought this book for my niece and she passed it on to me to read. Her opinion was that as she was reading it she wasn't that fussed about it, but once she got into it, she loved it so much, she went out and bought the next one straight away. So there you have it, I just had to read this book.
I enjoyed the story - and for a change, there was no vampires/werewolves/fairies - so I started. I picked up straight away that there was more to Ren than we knew and it all began to fall into place very early on in the book for me. (Yes, I know this book is aimed at teenagers)
I love the travel to India, I loved all the information given in the story about the culture and the curses and gods of India - but for me the story fell a little flat. We have the awareness of the love between the Kelsey and Ren, and the resistance of Kelsey to commit to Ren as she doesn't want to feel like his cage(?). Sorry, but I instantly thought of all the 17yo girls I know and think they would have ALL jumped head first if they were in love with someone as gorgeous, kind, loving and sweet as Ren appears to be in the book.
I know there are more books in the series, but I don't know that I will read them. I enjoyed the story that was written but maybe it's just not for me.

Dream of Me by Lisa Cach

Published by Dorchester Publishing Co NY (2008)
ISBN 978-0-505-52519-2
Paperback : 352 Pages

Theron, undying creature of the Night World, knew everything about making love. But though he was an incubus, a bringer of carnal visions to sleeping maids, he had grander ambitions. He plotted to step into the mortal world and rule as king.
The beautiful Lucia was imprisoned in a fortress atop a mountain. Her betrothed, Prince Vlad of Wallachia, wanted her purity intact; but when the prince broke a vow to Theron, nothing could keep her safe. The girl would be subjected to Theron's seduction; she would learn all his lips might teach.
A demon of lust and a sheltered princess: each dreamed of what they'd never had. They were about to get everything they wished and more.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I enjoyed this book - even though it took awhile to get going. The story of the young girl Lucia becoming awakened into Lust and Desire - and Theron, originally destined to use her and eventually falling in love with her.

I really think that Lisa Cach captured the essence of both characters well - you could believe the love story, the temptations and desires, as well as feel the struggle they both had to endure.

Enjoy the book

The Scent of Shadows by Vicki Pettersson

First Published by Harper Voyager in 2008
Paperback: 454 pages

ISBN-13: 978-0007270217

When she was sixteen, Joanna Archer was brutally assaulted and left to die in the Nevada desert.
By rights, she should be dead.
Now a photographer by day, she prowls a different Las Vegas after sunset – a grim, secret Sin City where Light battles Shadow – seeking answers to whom or what she really is … and revenge for the horrors she was forced to endure.
But the nightmare is just beginning – for the demons are hunting Joanna, and the powerful Shadows want her for their own…
-------------------------------------------------------
I don't know why I do it - I buy these books and they end up sitting on the book case for ages ... it's like I just keep putting off reading them for some reason, and then when I do WHAM! I can't put them down. This book was exactly like that.
This story centres around Joanna Archer and her undying addiction to protecting those around her, and even the innocents that she doesn't know but she feels a duty to make sure they are safe.
Joanna finds herself in a world that kids read about - good and bad, superheroes with powers and conduits - and it takes her awhile to realise that this is no joke, that it is real, and everyone she loves is in danger of being a target by the Shadow agents, as well as the Tulpa who can reach places without you even knowing.
You will read the book knowing there is more to Joanna's story, which will be revealed in Book 2 and 3 by the way, but you feel her pain and anger at being kept in the dark about her talents and who was behind the assault on her all those years ago. She seeks revenge ... with very sad consequences for her beloved sister, and has to learn who to trust, and how to work with a team of Light Agents, to get to the bottom of all her questions.
Enjoy the read - it's well worth it. This story is well written, with some believable characters and situations.
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ = Good Read, you won't be disappointed

Happy New Year 2012

Good morning everyone ... I hope that you all had a great time ringing in the New Year, and I hope that it is going to be an awesome one for everybody.

I have to apologise for not being here more towards the end of 2011 ... it was a horrible year for me and I found most of my spare time when not working (which seemed alot of the time) was spent at my Tag Forum.

But I am back ... ready to get some reviews done ... share some freebies and hopefully get some contests happening on here again.

Thanks for hanging around
